The place I'm leaving behind

I have loved living in this apartment in Fortitude Valley for the last 3 years and hope the new owners love it just as much. Of course the place I'm going to is a bit smaller but in my opinion it looks pretty good. I do think the new place will end up meaning even more to me since it was built with such love and care by the previous owner.

Excitement building

Only about 6 weeks to go now till I can move in so starting to get very excited! This is a panorama shot of the view from the front porch. I look at this and sigh.

Haven't been confident to say anything for a while as had a dreadful time with the bank ("which bank") deciding that it would not be prudent for them to lend money for a self-sufficient property, i.e. not connected to power grid, no sewerage or town water. Very hypocritical considering the lovely newsletters they send out encouraging home owners to install solar panels and water tanks to increase the value of their properties and save the world! Sorted it all out by taking out second mortgage on current apartment so deal could go through. Put that apartment on the market and signed contract for sale within a week. Everything falling into place now thankfully.

Pictures of the new place

Well, the contract was signed today so now I feel ok about posting some pictures of my new place. I'm sure you can see why I fell in love with it. It's a two bedroom house that's not connected to the grid and it's on 22 acres of land which is mostly forest. The area around the house has been cleared and there are fruit trees planted and vegetable gardens laid out. There are also four dams and a creek.

The beginning of my new life

I have seen my future home and just thinking about it makes me smile. That's how I know I'm making the right decision. This is the first step along the new path I want to take. I am making a move to a more self-sufficient lifestyle and the biggest thing so far has been to find the right place. I have been looking on and off and dreaming about the possibility of doing this for over 10 years now. I realise this is not a very big post for my first ever post but in reality the whole concept is so huge to me that it's best if I just talk about it bit by bit.
